The Russian writer, living in exile in Berlin, has been lauded as a strong candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature for several years.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ludmila Ulitskaya, 1943, was born in the Urals and raised in Moscow. A qualified biologist, she worked at Moscow\u2019s Institute of General Genetics before starting her literary career. Shortly before Perestroika, she became director of Moscow\u2019s Hebrew Repertory Theatre and a scriptwriter. She currently lives in exile in Germany. One of the greatest names in contemporary world literature, she is often mentioned as a strong candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ulitskaya\u2019s work has been translated into over forty languages, including novels, short stories, children\u2019s literature and plays. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sonechka<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, her first novel, was published in 1995 and it was awarded the Prix M\u00e9dicis \u00c9tranger and the Giuseppe Acerbi literary prizes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The author of works such as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Medea and Her Children<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Kukotsky Enigma<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jacob\u2019s Ladder<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, she received multiple accolades, such as the Austrian State Prize for European Literature, the Prix Formentor award and the Officier de la L\u00e9gion d\u2019Honneur order of merit.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The presence of Ludmila Ulitskaya is confirmed for November, at Utopia Braga.
