Mas foi com <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Costa dos Murm\u00farios<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1988), um livro que reflete a experi\u00eancia da guerra colonial em \u00c1frica, que o seu nome se confirmou no panorama das letras portuguesas. V\u00e1rios outros romances colocaram-na entre os autores europeus de refer\u00eancia. Romances como <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">O Vale da Paix\u00e3o<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1998) ou <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">O Vento Assobiando nas Gruas <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2002) conferiram-lhe os mais importantes pr\u00e9mios nacionais, como O Pr\u00e9mio de Fic\u00e7\u00e3o do PEN Clube, o Pr\u00e9mio D. Dinis da Casa de Mateus, ou o Grande Pr\u00e9mio de Romance da Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Portuguesa de Escritores. Os seus livros est\u00e3o publicados em diversas l\u00ednguas. Entre os pr\u00e9mios internacionais, destacam-se o Pr\u00e9mio Jean Monet, Escritor Europeu do Ano 2000; a primeira edi\u00e7\u00e3o do Pr\u00e9mio Albatroz da Funda\u00e7\u00e3o G\u00fcnter Grass pelo conjunto da sua obra; o Pr\u00e9mio de Cultura Luso-Espanhol atribu\u00eddo em 2015; ou ainda o Pr\u00e9mio FIL de Literatura em L\u00ednguas Rom\u00e2nicas, Guadalajara, em 2020. Em 2014, publicou <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Os Memor\u00e1veis<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> e, em 2018, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Estu\u00e1rio<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, um romance sobre a vulnerabilidade da Terra. Seguiram-se <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">O Livro das Tr\u00e9guas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (poesia, 2019) e <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Em Todos os Sentidos<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (cr\u00f3nica, 2020).
