João Tordo was born in 1975. He has published sixteen books and earned several awards, including the José Saramago Literary Prize in 2009, the Fernando Namora Prize in 2021, and the GQ Prize. He has been shortlisted for many other awards, including the European Literary Award, the Fernando Namora Prize, the Oceanos Prize, and the PEN Club Award. His books have been published in various countries, namely France, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Spain, Croatia, Serbia, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Colombia. 

He lives in Lisbon and enjoys riding bicycles, swimming and playing the guitar.
